Drumming Journey

After reading Connect yourself with the sound of drums.

Before we embark on our Drumming Journey, I wanted to take a moment to go over the intention with a drumming journey and how we can use this in our everyday life. A drumming journey can be done with any number of instruments and is best done with instruments or music that you find relates to your soul or being the best. What we are doing is a drumming meditation where the beat is simple. Simple can sometimes be the best. The goal of this is to be fully in the present with the beat, rhythm and feeling of the drum. Each drum has its own sound and frequency and some might not be the frequency that aligns most with you. We have chosen a drum that is a medium frequency. Although shamanic drums are mostly made from hide and other animal parts, we want to stress the importance of the feeling we get out of the sound. Sound and music are known to open pathways to the brain that are sometimes unexplainable. It opens both physical and spiritual pathways that help elevate us and can take us to another dimension.

Recently I worked with a client that was on hospice and as she was actively passing some strange occurrences happened. When someone is actively passing all of their muscles release in tension. Oftentimes their eyes are slightly open and their throat is relaxed and makes a gurgle noise. They aren’t coherent in a way that they can answer you, but I believe they are fully aware of what is going on around them. After all, our last sense to go is our hearing. As I was sitting beside her during this time, I turned my volume to a minimum, so that I did not disturb her. I was curious about a story from years ago about a brother and sister that were Native American and made a presentation at the local museum. During this he demonstrated the rhythmic beating of the drum and chanted with it. I played this and as I did so her body then started to move sporadically and her vocal cords were making noise as if she was chanting. This lasted as long as the music did. It scared me at first but after some research and talking with numerous different Shamans, as well as her family members I learned a couple of different things.

The first being that she was Native American. I didn’t know this as she had never mentioned it and I didn’t see anything that screamed she was from inside her house. She definitely did have the features, but I couldn’t judge on that alone. I had also found out what happened when those drums played. When a person is passing they go through a number of spiritual occurrences and sometimes you can assist them in their passing. About a week prior I had learned that she was passing and was on Hospice. At that point she could express herself fully and even assisted in rolling from side to side. I asked why I was placed with her at that time and what my purpose was. I asked this in a form of divination through my tarot cards. I received the message that I was there due to my deep love and that I was a portal. It didn’t make sense to me at that moment as to how or why I could be a portal, but after this had occurred and I spoke with other Shamans, I had found out that the drums I played as well as my presence with her had assisted her on through her passing. I also asked if I would be the one that she passed with. The answer was clear and was a no and that another caregiver would be who takes care of her during this time. I Came to find out that the caregiver that was there during that time had a religious bond with my client and had prayed and asked to be the one that was with her.

The point of this is that music even at its simplest can cause a massive shift in the physical and spiritual world. We can be spiritually in the moment with music by just listening and feeling the beat within. This often feels like a vibration within you. You can benefit from becoming calm and having less stress and you can also gain information and insight this way as well. However you feel the beat, know that you are benefiting from it.
